Parents need to instill morals, values early on

Dear Editor,
In our society today (Gilroy), there are many issues
– one of them being the lack of morality in teenagers. This is
shown in the sexual activities that they take part in such as oral
sex and sexual intercourse. A high majority of teenagers are
sexually active today and lack the information to think of sex as
consequential and serious.
Dear Editor,

In our society today (Gilroy), there are many issues – one of them being the lack of morality in teenagers. This is shown in the sexual activities that they take part in such as oral sex and sexual intercourse. A high majority of teenagers are sexually active today and lack the information to think of sex as consequential and serious.

Teen pregnancy is at an all-time high. When people stop having and teaching morality and enforcing their values, a generation is raised that has no sense of it. That seems to be what has happened in Gilroy, when many children are raised by young mothers who lack maturity, responsibility and the years of preparation needed for raising a child.

A local first grade teacher said that in her 26 years of teaching, about 20 percent of her student’s mothers were teens. She explained that “over the past 10-15 years, “I have definitely seen an increase in the teen pregnancy rate here in Gilroy, and I think its tragic.”

She also said that there is a noticeable difference in the learning capability of the children with teen mothers. “Teen parents lack the maturity in themselves to raise children their children with wisdom. Simply because they don’t have wisdom themselves.” Therefore children are faced with the problems at home, when a mother tries to single-handedly raise a child.

So why would anyone put a child through this? Who would want to raise a child at such a young age, when teenagers are clearly incapable?

The choice to be involved in sexual activities is strictly a matter of responsibility. Is a teenager responsible and mature enough? So unless we want to see more struggling teens in the lives of teenagers and children, then a stand must be taken. So parents, please enforce your morality and values with your children early on.
