Gilroy – A man Gilroy police believe robbed an outlet store at gunpoint Friday was arrested in Novato Saturday, following another robbery attempt that sparked a chase, an officer-involved shooting and an hours-long manhunt.

Juan Sanchez, 18, of San Jose, was arrested by Novato police along with a 17-year-old male.

Sanchez is suspected of attempting to rob a 25-year-old woman at knife point at 9:10am Saturday. He and the 17-year-old fled in a white, older model Ford F-150 pick-up truck. A witness followed and notified police, who blocked the street with patrol vehicles.

Sanchez drove into the witness’ car and around police cars, Novato police said. At one point, the two men drove toward an officer, who fired two rounds at the truck, but did not hit either the teens, who then got on U.S. 101, exiting in the Marinwood area, where they abandoned the truck. Novato police and SWAT teams found them both hiding in separate locations.

The pick-up, which was stolen out of San Jose, is believed to be the truck driven by Sanchez, when police say he robbed the Koret of California of $400.

Sgt. Kurt Svardal said witnesses identified Sanchez from photos.
