William (Bill) E. Lindsteadt died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 in Salinas. He was 66.
Born in Norfolk, Neb., on July 24, 1938 to parents Ernest and Frieda (Schnoor) Lindsteadt, he was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1956.
Mr. Lindsteadt served four years in the United States Air Force. He also managed Thrifty Drug stores in Simi Valley and Ukiah.
He entered the real estate business for a few years before becoming Economic Development Director for the city of Ukiah, the city of Hanford and Kings and Mendocino counties, before serving as Economic Development Director for the City of Gilroy for the last nine years.
He was a member of the Gilroy Elks, Gilroy Rotary, Ukiah Lions, Ukiah Elks, Ukiah Rotary, Ukiah Masons, Ukiah Shriners and Ukiah Men’s Golf Club.
He also enjoyed singing and was a member of the Ukiah Barber Shop Quartet, a member of the Hanford Men’s Chorus Club, and he sang with the Garlic City Harmony Barber Shop Quartet.
Mr. Lindsteadt was an active member of the church choir in both the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Gilroy and Grace Lutheran Church in Ukiah.
He was a member of the Gilroy Downtown Task Force Committee and is the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year for 2004.
Mr. Lindsteadt also was responsible for the economic increase in new business development at Gilroy Crossing, and fill-in businesses in downtown Gilroy.
Since he was hired in 1996, sales tax revenue has doubled to $1.1 billion. Mr. Lindsteadt enjoyed his job very much.
He also loved to golf, fish, hunt pheasant, skydive and follow the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.
He married Raisa Demianenko on March 4, 1962. Born to Bill and Raisa were two sons, William (Billy Jr.) and Jerry.
Mr. Lindsteadt is survived by wife, Raisa; son, Jerry of Ukiah; sisters, Doris Ann and Kenneth Kraemer of Webster City, Iowa, and Kathryn and Darrell Coppock of Marion, Iowa; and brothers, James and Virginia Lindsteadt of Ukiah, Robert and Karla Lindsteadt of Norfolk, Neb., and John and Janet Lindsteadt of Lincoln, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Billy Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
There will be a funeral service for Mr. Lindsteadt in Ukiah at 2pm, Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at the Eversole Mortuary, 141 Low Gap Road, Ukiah.
Burial will follow at the Russian River Cemetery, Ukiah.
