The name of Jeramy A. Ailes, 22, of Gilroy, killed in Iraq, was read recently in Carbondale, Colorado, during a ceremony at which the town hall flag was lowered to half staff in memory of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.
The small mountain town, population 5,000, enacted a resolution in January of 2004 that provides for the town flag to be lowered every Monday morning and kept at half staff all day “until the state of war no longer exists.”
The ceremony has been picked up by other communities as well who also wish to honor those whose lives have been lost. Information about the project may be obtained from the Web site rememberingliveslost.org.
