Morning accident slows commute

Hollister – Traffic on Highway 101, about a half-mile south of Highway 25, was stopped in both directions for 20 minutes Friday morning due to a single-car crash that sent one Salinas man to the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man, whose name was not available by press time, was on his way to work in Gilroy when he drove off the road, overcorrected and rolled his 1987 Cadillac around 8:20am, said CHP Officer Matt Ramirez.

Police closed the road by 8:40am so a helicopter could land to fly the man to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening, including some cuts to his face, Ramirez said.

Police were able to reopen the road by 9am, he said.
