RotaCare gets $20K grant

Gilroy – RotaCare Bay Area, a Gilroy-based nonprofit offering free medical care to low-income and uninsured families, recently received a $20,000 grant from the Community Foundation Silicon Valley. The grant is part of the foundation’s Partners in Philanthropy program, a group of people who have created philanthropic funds to support local organizations.

RotaCare operates nine clinics throughout the Bay Area. The grant is targeted to support the San Jose sites and the site in Gilroy, which is located behind South Valley Middle School on Murray Avenue and open Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30pm.

Fifteen organizations received grants totaling $225,750 as part of the foundation’s 2004-05 Community Impact Grants. The recipient organizations help those in need in Santa Clara and South San Mateo counties.

Las Animas Winter Festival

Gilroy – Las Animas Elementary School will present its Winter Festival tonight from 5:30 to 8pm at Rod Kelley Elementary School, 8755 Kern Ave., in the multi-purpose room. The festival will include a potluck dinner, student performances, arts and crafts, raffle prizes and a silent auction of class-themed baskets.

Charlotte’s Web on stage

Gilroy – Rucker Theater Arts presents “Charlotte’s Web,” directed by Mr. Jose “Pepe” Espinosa, on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7pm and Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 and 7pm at Rucker School, 325 Santa Clara Ave.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. One student gets in free with a play flier.

Polenta dinner benefits students

Gilroy – The Italian Catholic Federation presents their annual Polenta Dinner Saturday at St. Mary Church in Cullen Hall, 11 First St. All proceeds benefit ICF charities including scholarships for local students.

Take out available after 5:30pm. Bring your own containers. Dinner will be served from 6 to 8pm. Donation $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Chamber award dinner slated

Gilroy – The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce 52nd Annual Dinner & Citizen Awards will be held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, 3825 Union Road, Hollister, on Feb. 5 at 5:30pm.

Tickets are $65 per person.
