Gilroy – A San Jose man driving near Casa de Fruta Saturday night was arrested after a deputy sheriff found garbage bags containing 35 pounds of marijuana in his trunk.

The deputy had stopped Quang Thanh Tong, 31, on suspicion of drunken driving as he was heading away from Gilroy on Highway 152 near Casa de Fruta, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Terrance Helm said.

Tong gave the deputy permission to search his 1998 Honda Accord following a sobriety check, when the deputy found the marijuana, individually packaged for sale and contained in garbage bags, Helm said.

Tong was arrested on suspicion of transportation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale, and was booked into the main jail.
