On March 25, the Aromas Community Grange will present songwriter and performer Steve Gillette along with traditional singer and musician Cindy Mangsen.
Steve Gillette is both a celebrated performer as well as a prolific and well-known songwriter. Since the 1960’s, his songs have been performed by Garth Brooks, The Dirt Band, Nanci Griffith, Waylon Jennings, The Oak Ridge Boys, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Spanky and Our Gang, Bobby Vinton, Ann Murray, Tammy Wynette, and Jerry Jeff Walker among others. John Denver, and many others, performed his popular song “Darcy Farrow.” Gillette’s book “Songwriting and the Creative Process” (Sing Out Press) is a standard text in songwriting classes across the country.
Cindy Mangsen is an accomplished lyricist known internationally for her renditions of both original and traditional folk songs. A master interpreter of traditional ballads rich in myth and legend, she is an expert musician on the guitar, banjo, English concertina and mountain dulcimer. She has developed a national following with several albums and many guest appearances.
This concert is a fund-raising event for the Teressie White Scholarship Fund to support outstanding high school graduates in the Aromas area.
The concert begins promptly at 7:30pm on Thursday, March 11 at the Aromas Community Grange Hall, located at the corner of Rose and Bardue Streets in Aromas. There will be a short intermission with snacks available. The concert ends at 10pm. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for students and $6 for children under 12 years old. Tickets will be available at the door starting at 6pm.
