This event is sponsored by Gilroy Guitar Gallery. It will be held at South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Dr.

Auditions for ‘Annie, Jr.’ slated for Saturday
Gilroy – Gilroy Community Services Department and Rainbow Children’s Theatre will be holding auditions for “Annie, Jr.” on Saturday, March 12 at Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.
Auditions will be held at 10am for kids ages 5 through 10; 12pm for kids 11 through 14 and 2pm for ages 15 through 18.
Please prepare a short song a capella and come in comfortable clothing. A simple dance routine will be taught, so please no sandals. Performances will be held in July.

for ‘Alladin Jr.’
Gilroy – South Valley Civic Theatre will be holding auditions for Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” at the SVCT, 8565 Monterey Road (behind Kelly Moore Paints).
Dates are: Friday, March 18 with 6:30pm check-in for 7pm auditions, Saturday, March 19, with 9:30am check-in for 10am auditions, and 12:30pm check-in for 1pm auditions.
Call backs at the director’s request will be held Saturday evening.
All roles are open for youth actors ages 8 through 14. Jafar may be cast as an older baritone role up to age 18. Please come prepared with a song of your choosing not from Disney’s Aladdin. An accompanist will be provided.
All roles should be prepared to perform a cold reading and dress comfortably for a short dance routine.

Story time at Gilroy Premium Outlets
Gilroy – Each Saturday in March, a different children’s store at Gilroy Premium Outlets will be hosting Once Upon a Saturday, a storytelling time from 10:30 to 11am. Parents and children will receive a goodie bag filled with a VIP Coupon Book, a children’s book donated by Book Warehouse, special additional discounts at participating children’s stores and restaurants.

Downtown flea market returns in April
Gilroy – The 2005 downtown Gilroy Flea Market, at the Lewis Street parking lot, will be held from 8:30am to 3pm on the third Saturday of each month, April through October, except in July when it will be on the fourth Saturday.
Spaces 9-feet-wide by 20-feet-deep are available for $20 per space. Set up will be from 7 to 8:30am the day of the event. Vendors must supply their own chairs, tables, umbrellas, etc., and are responsible for trash cleanup of their space.

‘Luck O’ The Irish’ tennis tournament
Gilroy – The Gilroy Tennis Club is hosting the “Luck O’ The Irish,” a women’s singles and men’s doubles tournament on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 8:30am at Las Animas Park.
Membership in the club is required to participate.
Fire department receives grant
Gilroy – The South Santa Clara County Fire District will receive a $34,690 grant for operations and fire safety improvement projects, in particular portable radios and gas masks with radio voice amplifiers.
The funding is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters program. The funds can also be used to develop a planned system that will help track firefighters in the field.
Garlicky Group of Poets meets Saturday
Gilroy – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold its monthly poetry reading on Saturday, March 12, at 3:30 in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library, located at the corner of Rosanna and Sixth streets. The public is invited to participate for free.
Las Animas ‘Fresh Choice’ fundraiser
Gilroy – Las Animas School is holding a fundraising night at “Fresh Choice” on March 17 between 4 and 9pm. Fresh Choice will donate 20 percent of sales back to the Home & School Club. Pick up a flyer at Las Animas’ office and present it to the cashier when you pay. Fresh Choice is located by the Premium Outlets across from Office Max.
Bird watch on walk along Coyote Creek
Morgan Hill – A series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a national park service docent for 20 years and a WERC volunteer, will continue on Saturday, March 12, from 9 to 11am along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill.
Participants will have the opportunity to observe spring and summer migratory birds, as well as discover an appreciation for local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. Additional walks are scheduled for April 16 and May 14. Guests may attend one or all of the walks.
Due to the terrain, the walks are not recommended for young children.
The programs are free, but space is limited so reservations are required.

Waterfall wonders on Uvas Park hike
Morgan Hill – The Greenbelt Alliance is offering a guided hike to the beautiful waterfalls of Uvas Canyon County Park, near Morgan Hill. This moderate 3.25-mile hike features spectacular views of little-known waterfalls, including the three-tiered Triple Falls. This hike makes for a lovely Sunday outing for the whole family.
The hike will be led by Greenbelt Outings leader Gael Erickson, and accompanied by Michele Beasley, Greenbelt Alliance South Bay Field Representative. The hike – from 10am to 3pm Sunday – is open to the public.
