Come to the pet fair on Saturday, March 19, from noon to 5pm at Petco in Gilroy. Stop by to find a new friend, make a donation, or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

Fresh Choice raising funds for Las Animas
Gilroy – Las Animas School is holding a fundraising night at “Fresh Choice” on Thursday, March 17 between 4 and 9pm.
Fresh Choice will donate 20 percent of sales back to the Home & School Club. Pick up a flyer at Las Animas’ office and present it to the cashier when you pay. Fresh Choice is located by the Outlets across from Office Max.
PFLAG meets third Saturday of the month
Gilroy – PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a support group fostering understanding and acceptance in families and society.
Meetings are held every third Saturday, 9:30am at The United Church of Gilroy, corner of Fourth and Church streets.
Scholarships available for Gilroy seniors
Gilroy – Seniors who will be graduating in 2005 are invited to stop by the Chamber office to pick up scholarship applications.
This year, the Chamber will be awarding $7,500 in scholarships, and In addition, scholarships for the Gilroy Rotary Club totaling $7,000 will be awarded.
Applications for each of these scholarships are available. Figure that if a student receives a $500 scholarship with four hours invested in the application process, a return on that investment of time equates to $125 per hour.
The deadline for the Chamber’s scholarships is April 8, and the deadline for Gilroy Rotary scholarships is May 20.

Auditions slated for ‘Aladdin Jr.’
Gilroy – South Valley Civic Theatre will be holding auditions for Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” at the SVCT, 8565 Monterey Road (behind Kelly Moore Paints) on Friday, March 18 with 6:30pm check-in for 7pm auditions, and Saturday, March 19, with 9:30am check-in for 10am auditions and 12:30pm check-in for 1pm auditions.
Call backs at the director’s request will be held Saturday evening. All roles are open for youth actors ages 8 through 14. Jafar may be cast as an older baritone role up to age 18.
Come prepared with a song of your choosing not from Disney’s Aladdin. An accompanist will be provided.
All roles should be prepared to perform a cold reading and dress comfortably for a short dance routine.

Vintage American music on display
Gilroy – United Methodist Church, 7600 Church St., will host a concert at 7:30pm Friday.
American vintage cornet music and hand harmonica will be performed by Herman Schmalzried and accompanied by Eunice Coates.
Concert waltzes on the piano will be featured by Candace Fazzio. Admission is free.

March is ‘for the birds’ at county libraries
Gilroy – March is “for the birds” at the Santa Clara County Library where more than 20 special programs will focus on the increasingly popular activity of bird watching and conservation education about birds of the Bay Area and beyond. One of those programs will take place at Gilroy Library.
According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, birdwatching is the fastest growing outdoor activity in America with about 46 million “birders.”
Among the special events scheduled throughout the County is: “Wings on the Wind: The Condor Reintroduction Project at Pinnacles National Monument” at the Gilroy Public Library on Saturday, March 26, at 2pm.
