Gilroy Wins Fall Ball Qualifier

Gilroy Stanford Cardinal 12-and-under team wins the 2005 NSA Fall Ball Qualifier tournament in Salinas Oct. 1-2. The team went undefeated in five games.


Game 1 (Saturday)

Gilroy 6, Foxx Fastpitch 5

Taylor Clancy did an outstanding job of pitching for Gilroy. The Cardinal had nine stolen bases due to aggressive base running by Clancy, Clarisa Hass, Sam Parraz, Sarah Spindel and Elaina Vasquez. In the bottom of the fourth, Sarina Sandoval was moved over to second by a single to the outfield by Adrianna Ortega. Each of the next batters did their job and moved the girls into scoring position. Sam Parraz ripped the ball to the outfield scoring Ortega for the winning run.

 Game 2 (Saturday)

Gilroy 5

Pride of Morgan Hill 1

Parraz struck out eight batters and went the distance in a five-inning game. Lindsay Holt, Melanie Morelos and Vasquez each scored in the second inning. Sandoval and Ortega scored insurance runs in the fifth inning. Hass bunted the ball to score Morelos and a throwing error allowed Vasquez to score. Both Holt and Sandoval went 2-for-3 with a double and single each.Game 3 (Saturday)

Gilroy 2, Lady Hawks 0

 Spindel pitched a 2-hitter, 6-inning game with six strikeouts. In a tough fought game, Holt and Parraz scored the only two runs the opposing team allowed. In the bottom of the sixth with two runners in scoring position, Vasquez made a spectacular line drive catch to end the inning and the game.

 Game 4 (Sunday)

Gilroy 9, San Jose Twisters 3

 Down 3-2 at the top of the third inning, Gilroy scored five runs and never looked back. Holt smacked two doubles, Morelos added a double and a single and Spindel hit two singles. Parraz was the winning pitcher.

Championship Game (Sunday)

Gilroy 10,

Pride of Morgan Hill 1

Parraz’s kept the other team off-balance with, throwing a 2-hitter with five strikeouts in five innings. The Pride of Morgan Hill fought a great battle, but couldn’t stop the aggressive base running of Clancy and Vasquez or the bats of Hass, Holt, Morelos, Ortega, Parraz, Poso, Sandoval and Spindel.
