CALLER 1: I would like to know why you guys don’t cover more of
the Gilroy High School girls’ golf team. Last week, Carla Navarro
made a hole-in-one at a meet and it’s been a week and I haven’t
seen it in the paper.
CALLER 1: I would like to know why you guys don’t cover more of the Gilroy High School girls’ golf team. Last week, Carla Navarro made a hole-in-one at a meet and it’s been a week and I haven’t seen it in the paper. I think this is an important fact that you should know because this is the second girl that has done this. I think last year, maybe two years ago, another girl made a hole-in-one but that’s it. You guys should take more pictures of the girls golf team because they’re doing really good.

GREEN PHONE: Thanks for the call. We hope you saw Wednesday’s paper (Oct. 19) because we ran a story about Navarro’s awesome shot on the front page of the sports section. However, yes, we admit we were a little tardy on getting it in there. There was a reason for that. Since getting a hole-in-one is such a big deal, we wanted to put a photo of Navarro in with the story. But since we didn’t have a photographer out at the meet at Twin Creeks where she had the hole-in-one, we made an editorial decision to wait until the girls played at CordeValle Tuesday, a little closer to home, so we could get a shot of her. Unfortunately, the photographer showed up to find that Navarro was sick and not competing. So we ran the story late and without her picture. Clearly, this wasn’t the situation we had intended for. We’re sorry you were disappointed. We have done our best to follow the golf team’s progress closely and will put forth even better effort in the future, especially with the TCAL Championship meet coming up very soon.
