El Teatro Campesino in San Juan Bautista is celebrating its 40th anniversary with two weekends of events, exhibits, live performances and films.

The celebration kicks off at 2pm Oct. 30 with a tardeada and barbecue fundraiser at the El Teatro Campesino Playhouse at 705 Fourth St. in San Juan Bautista. Tickets are $80 per person, and all proceeds from the event will benefit El Teatro Campesino.

Special tours will be given of an exclusive archival exhibit at 7pm Nov. 4 through Nov. 6. Following the tour each night is a screening of selected El Teatro Campesino films at 8pm.

El Teatro Campesino, which means “the farmworker’s theater,” is a nonprofit that was founded in 1965 by Luis Valdez.
