Boy, 12, injured in accident

Gilroy – A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after being partially ejected from an overturned vehicle Saturday night. The driver of the Mitsubishi was an unlicensed 16-year-old male using his mother’s vehicle. He lost control while traveling at 40mph eastbound on Southside Drive, east of Rossi Lane.

The vehicle overturned, pinning the 12-year-old between the embankment and the car. He was not wearing a seatbelt. He suffered cuts to the head and was airlifted to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he was listed in critical but stable condition Monday.

The driver and two 15-year-old male passengers manually pushed the vehicle onto its wheels. They all suffered minor injuries and were taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital where they were treated and released.

The accident is under investigation. Alcohol is not a factor.

Four injured in U.S. 101 accident

Gilroy – Four individuals suffered minor injuries in a crash on U.S. 101 late Sunday afternoon.

The driver, 28-year-old Walter Meeks of Hayward, lost control of his Ford Escort while changing lanes. The car traveling at 65mph went onto the shoulder and down an embankment, overturning onto the passenger side.

All four individuals wore seatbelts and suffered minor injuries.

Rosanna Luchka, 19, of Patterson, complained of pain and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Both Jose Rivera, 19, of Fremont, and a 17-year-old female from Fremont suffered cuts to the head and were taken by ambulance to San Jose Regional Medical Center.

The accident is under investigation. Alcohol is not a factor.

Public invited to opening of Eliot

Gilroy – The public is invited to attend the grand opening of Eliot Elementary Friday from 1:30 to 2:30pm.

The dedication ceremony was originally scheduled for Oct. 21 but was delayed to honor the late TJ Owens. Owens was serving as president of the Gilroy Unified School District board at the time of his death.

Visitors will have the opportunity to check out the new facility.

Refreshments will be served.
