San Jose – Directors of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority have decided to postpone discussion of a new sales tax to fund BART.

Originally scheduled to decide on the components of a tax plan Thursday, the directors pushed the issue back to their Dec. 1 meeting.

The delay comes as proponents of bringing BART to San Jose, who hold a majority on the VTA’s 12-member board, negotiate possible cuts to a planned rail link to the Mineta San Jose International Airport and other service cuts that have upset some San Jose representatives.

Whatever the final details, there is broad support on the VTA board to ask voters to approve a new quarter-cent sales tax on the November 2006 ballot.
