Garcia earns lifetime honor
Milpitas – John Garcia, a Gilroy Community Services Department supervisor, was presented the Honorary Lifetime Membership Recognition Award by the Sports Association of Northern California Recreation Agencies (Southern Division) for his many years of outstanding contributions and participation to the recreation sports organization.
Garcia was recently promoted from the Adult Sports Division of the Gilroy Community Services Department to a supervisor of the Therapeutic and Senior programs.
He has been a visible spokesperson for the organization and been a mentor to a number of past and present members within the organization.
Get a hair cut for the Red Cross
Gilroy – Image & Design Salon, along with other local salons, will cut hair for donations to the American Red Cross.
The Cut-a-thon will be held from 10am to 3pm Sunday in the parking lot at 7897 Eigleberry St. A minimum donation of $10 is requested, $15 with blowdry.
The event is for first time clients. Current clients are OK, though not guaranteed with stylist of choice. There will be drinks, food, raffles and prizes.
‘Metamorphosis’ begins tonight
Gilroy – The Gilroy High School fall production of Metamorphosis will begin on Thursday and Friday at 8pm and continue next week on Nov. 10, 11 and 12 at 8pm.
Tickets are $5 a person and will not be sold in advance. The GHS theater box office will open at 7:30pm.

Grand opening of Eliot school
Gilroy – The public is invited to attend the grand opening of Eliot Elementary Friday from 1:30 to 2:30pm. The dedication ceremony was originally scheduled for Oct. 21 but was delayed to honor the late TJ Owens. Owens was serving as president of the Gilroy Unified School District board at the time of his death.
Visitors can check out the new facility. Refreshments will be served.
