Local veterinarian, longtime Rotary Club member, Morgan Hill Times editorial board member and supporter of police fundraising efforts John Quick died this morning.

Paramedics were dispatched to his home at Holiday Drive in Morgan Hill about 8:15 a.m., according to police. Quick was transported to Kaiser Santa Teresa hospital in San Jose.

Fellow Rotary member and club president Del Foster confirmed that Quick died, though he did not know at what time.

Quick was well-known in Morgan Hill, as a vet and as a supporter of community improvement efforts. He was active in the Morgan Hill Community Law Enforcement Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money for the local police department.

Police Chief Bruce Cumming praised Quick for his role in bringing the department’s police dog, Pax, to Morgan Hill by helping to raise funds for his purchase. He also provided free healthcare for the K-9 officer at his clinic, Animal Care Center on Tennant Avenue.

“John Quick was a devoted member of (CLEF). He was a good idea-man and very enthusiastic about helping law enforcement, and he was just a great guy,” Cumming said.

More details will follow throughout the day.
