Consolation Round 2

Leif Dominguez (103) picked up a first-period fall victory over Jalil Moore and is 2-1 so far. He will face Josh Rodriguez of Righetti in the third consolation round.

Rodney Balajadia (119) defeated Chris Aguliar of Stockdale High (Bakersfield) 9-3. Balajadia built a comfortable 7-1 lead heading into the third and final period with the help of a two-point takedown and a three-point near fall. He will go up against Peter Palacios of Calvary Chapel in the third consolation round.

Willie Fox (130) eliminated Sonny Cervantes of Clovis via tech fall (15-0) to stay alive in the tournament. Fox is 2-1 in the tournament and will engage Anthony Linares of Oak Grove in the next round. The two met earlier in the year at Mid-Cals with.

Championship Bracket Round 3

No. 1-ranked Jesse Delgado (125) handled Ricky Haynes of Bonita Vista, sending Haynes down to the consolation bracket with a convincing tech fall victory, 17-2. Delgado, now 2-0 in the tournament and in search of a second consecutive state title is into quarters to take on Vince Rodriguez of Clovis North.

Blake Kastl, No. 5-ranked at 135, defeated Sawyer Smith of Brawley 14-5, punching his ticket into quarterfinals. Kastl (2-0) awaits the challenge of Spencer Hill of Buchanan.

Vicente Aboytes (152) lost to Matt Negrete of Buchanan and will now have to wrestle in the consolation bracket. Aboytes held the lead 2-1 late in the match when Negrete was awarded a two-point takedown with 30 seconds remaining in the third period. Aboytes (2-1) nearly scored a reversal as time expired but couldn’t quite nail it down. The senior will take on Michael Ciccarelli of King City in the third consolation round.

No. 1-ranked at 160 pounds, Dominic Kastl encountered Tyler Ceremello of Clovis and exited the match with a 6-2 decision victory. Kastl, who is 2-0 so far, and Tylar Clarke of Elk Grove will square off in the quarters.

No. 7 Luis Barragan (285) lost to No. 2-state-ranked Ory Elor of College Park, 7-1. Barragan will now have to continue his championships in the consolation bracket. Barragan never had the momentum one attempting one single-leg shot which Elor defended and countered with a take down in the second period. Barragan is now 2-1.

The third consolation round and fourth championship round will begin at about 6:30. Stay tuned for one more update at the conclusion of Day 1.
