SOFTBALL: Lady Mustangs blank Monte Vista, 7-0

 

GILROY – Finally getting a chance to take the field after a
number of rain outs, the Gilroy High softball team got right to
work in its first game of the season, defeating Monte Vista 7-0 in
non-league action Tuesday in Gilroy.

Sarah Lira tossed a three-hit gem, going all seven innnings and striking out five in the process. The Mustangs led 1-0 heading into the fifth inning when they unleashed a four-spot to blow the game open. They would tack on two more runs in the sixth.

Lira also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI. Amber Gamboa had a pair of hits and two RBI, and Alissa Castro went 2-for-4.

The Mustangs have a pair of home games to close out the week. First up is Presentation on Thursday followed by Archbishop Mitty on Friday. Both games are slated for 3:30 p.m. starts.
