MAJORS SOFTBALL: Heat lead by half game over Bandits with one game remaining

Majors softball division with an exciting 3-2 victory on
Saturday.
GILROY – The Earthbound Farm Heat took a half game lead over the Dr. Tommy Tong Orthodontics Bandits in the Gilroy Little League Majors softball division with an exciting 3-2 victory on Saturday.

Olivia Moore scored the first run for the Heat in the third inning, and Maddie Cox and Lauren Castro added two more in the fourth.

Castro held the Bandits scoreless until the sixth inning when they mounted a stirring comeback.

Anjelica Reyes and Maria Sandoval scored for the Bandits, but Castro managed to get the final out with the tying run on third.

Cynthia Delreal had two hits and Anna Gamboa struck out nine in the defeat. Castro had 12 strikeouts for the Heat.

The No. 1-seed for the playoffs will be determined on Wednesday when the two teams meet again to conclude the regular season.

“It was a very exciting game and we were fortunate to come out on top,” Heat manager Ed Castro said. “The Bandits are a good team and they never give up.”
