Briefs: Demonstration garden opens; aviation program open; volunteers needed

The Gilroy Demonstration Garden, on Eigleberry Street between
Sixth and Seventh streets, is now open to the public from 1 to 4
p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Staff will be on hand to answer
questions. There will be a free Goodnight Garden Bedtime Story from
7 to 7:30 p.m. June 30. Garden day camps run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mondays through Thursdays beginning July 12 for kids ages 5 to 10;
pre-registration required. Tuition is $150. Limited scholarships

Give your career a lift

Students can apply now for fall admission to the Gavilan College Aviation Maintenance program, which is accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration and leads to a certificate of achievement or an associate of science degree for completion of the two-year program. Classes begin Aug. 11 at the Gavilan College Gilroy campus Multipurpose Building, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., and spring classes may be held in both Gilroy and at the San Martin Airport. Volunteers needed for oversight committee

Volunteers are needed to represent the community on the Gavilan College Measure E Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The committee meets quarterly, and the next meeting is at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Gavilan College Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. In 2004, voters approved Measure E, which provided $108 million in general obligation bonds for Gavilan facilities. As required by Proposition 39, the committee must ensure revenues from Measure E are spent as promised. Details: 848-4711 or gavilan.edu/pio/bond.html.
