Should the length of the school day at Gilroy schools be
increased by two hours?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:
Should the length of the school day at Gilroy schools be increased by two hours?
■ No. We are taxing the system (teacher’s bandwidth and students attention span) as it is. Looking into after school programs to help students with independent study opportunities could be a better focus of resources.
■ If it’s the instructional day being longer, then no, unless there is mandatory participation of parents similar to charter schools. Why two hours? Why not three or four hours?
■ Yes, it’s all about more time for academics. Computer programs can be used effectively as well – it’s about organizing effective instruction and devoting time to learning.
■ WOW! That would be ideal for working families. Just think, a 9-to-5 school day. It’s a good thought and kids would probably be on time!
