The Senior Center at 7371 Hanna St. will not be formerly open as a heat wave relief center today, but it will be on stand-by until this evening.

Local residents – especially the elderly – are warned to stay out of the heat, not to leave their children in the car and make sure pets have plenty of water.

Tuesday’s heat advisory was the first of the year, as the mercury hasn’t risen far about 90 degrees until this week, NWS forecaster Diana Henderson said.

Friday’s forecasted high is 78 and by this weekend highs will be about 71 degrees.
