The jury trial of James Robert Mikolic and Elian Reyes, the two men involved in a collision that resulted in the death of 40-year-old Gilroyan Raul Heredia, is scheduled for 9 a.m. September 20 in Department 105 in South County Courthouse.

At about 5:50 p.m. June 23, 2009, Heredia stopped his motorcycle at the corner of Watsonville Road and Redwood Retreat Road when he was allegedly hit by Santa Cruz resident Mikolic who was traveling southbound after making an unsafe right turn, according to the California Highway Patrol. The truck collided into the left front of the motorcycle, causing Heredia and his motorcycle to be pinned underneath Reyes’ Nissan Frontier.

Heredia was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police say Morgan Hill resident Reyes left the scene of the accident before CHP officers arrived. Reyes and Mikolic have each been charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter. They pleaded not guilty at their arraignment date on November 9, 2009.

Heredia owned Raul’s Hairdressing in Gilroy and had two children.
