SALINAS – The Gilroy High girls varsity tennis team let one slip from its grasp Thursday, succumbing to the Alisal Trojans 5-2 in Tri-County Athletic League action in Salinas.

The Mustangs built leads in two of the four singles matches, but advantages in each disappeared as the matches continued.

No. 1-singles player Jennifer Kwong blanked Nubia Picazo 6-0 in the first set but subsequently dropped the second, 6-2, and the tiebreaker, 10-3.

Amiti Munshi established early leads in both sets of her No. 4-singles match, yet was upset by Lizette Rosales, who rallied for a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

No. 1-doubles duo of Melanie Morelos and Elaina Vasquez cruised past Carla Guillen and Jennifer Silva, 6-2, 6-2, while Sami Holder and Lindsay Holt mustered a comeback in the No. 2-doubles match, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4, to capture the team’s second point.

GHS has a tough TCAL schedule to contend with next week, first traveling to Salinas to face Notre Dame on Tuesday, then returning home to welcome rival San Benito. Both matches are set for 4 p.m. starts.
