“I thought we were being attacked Friday at 8:45 p.m. when I heard bombs exploding and saw bright flashes of light. I live in Country Estates. I called my daughter who lives near the high school and found out it was a Homecoming celebration at the high school. I almost called the police first. Shouldn’t these types of events be announced before the fact?
Red Phone: Dear Give Me Some Peace, Fortunately Gilroy was not being invaded. It wasn’t an attempt by Morgan Hill to steal our garlic.
Each year, teams hold their annual Homecoming football game to get students pumped up about the team. Many teams will have fireworks displays such as the one Gilroy High had during halftime in the game Friday against Alisal.
The Mustangs were almost able to feed off the momentum to earn their first league win. But a last-minute drive fell short, and Alisal won 21-17.
The school did let neighbors know of the event beforehand by passing out fliers to the neighbors and posting the information on the marquee board in front of the school, Principal Marco Sanchez said.
Property tax statement needed
“I am wondering why we have not received the Santa Clara County property tax statement yet. It is due Nov. 1. That is less than two weeks to be able to pay it. And there is a penalty after Dec. 10. It seems they are late this year. What is going on? Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Faithful Taxpayer, This is the time of year every property owner hates. If you didn’t receive a form, you can call 808-7900 to receive a new one.
But you don’t need your bill in order to pay the amount owed. You can find out how much you need to pay by visiting the Assessor’s Office page on the county’s website at sccgov.org or by calling the office. You can search by address and then find exactly how much is owed and your Assessor’s Parcel Number, assigned by the county.
To pay by mail, make the check payable to the Santa Clara County Tax Collector, include the APN on the check or money order and send it to Santa Clara County Tax Collector, 70 W. Hedding St., San Jose, CA 95110.
