The Gilroy High girls varsity tennis team needed a trio of third-set tiebreaker victories to get by Alvarez 4-3 on Thursday in Gilroy.

The win punctuated a celebratory day as the seniors served it up one last time on the GHS courts.

Satthea Khay produced the lone win in singles competition, defeating Menry Medrano 6-1, 5-7,10-5.

The Mustangs have rallied behind solid doubles play all season long and the tandems didn’t falter Thursday.

No. 1 doubles partners, Melanie Morelos and Elaina Vasquez, delivered one final straight-sets triumph 6-1, 6-2 over Paula Relagio and Joyce Roya.

The two most intriguing matches of the afternoon occurred at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Lindsay Holt and Sami Holder overcame a one-set-to-none deficit and clawed back for a 3-6, 6-2,10-8 win.

The pair at No. 3-doubles, Alejandra Pacheco and Megan Meazell, also fell behind 1-0 in the match before tying the things with a second-set tiebreaker and sealed the outcome with a 10-6 third-set win.

The Mustangs finish the regular season 3-9. The Tri-County Athletic League championships begin Monday and head coach Jami Reynolds believes her girls are peaking at the right time.

“I think we are performing at our highest level right now,” she said. “Perfect timing.”
