POP WARNER: Gilroy Browns Pee Wee, Midgets move on in playoffs

Two teams advance, two teams’ seasons come to an end.
The Gilroy Browns Midgets football team eked by Bayside 18-14 in the first round of the playoffs last weekend.

Three different Browns found the end zone in the win to propel the team to a Saturday showdown with an undefeated Sunnyvale team in Sunnyvale.

Mark Quimby scored on a 10-yard scamper off tackle, Jordan Goldstein rumbled in from 2-yards out and Anthony Samutt connected with Anthony Longoria for a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Kevin Onyejekwe scored twice as the Pee Wee Browns cruised passed Redwood City 26-6 to advance in the postseason.

Anthony Corral and Anthony Bollendorf also recorded touchdowns for the Browns, and Conner Doyle registered an interception.

The Pee Wees continue their playoff push against Salinas at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex on Saturday at noon.

Despite solid defense by Payton Mitchell, Kevin Krulee and an interception by Christian Padilla, the Junior Pee Wees saw their season come to a close in a 14-0 loss to Salinas. Noah Laine also had a number of good runs, however, the Browns’ offense was unable to find the end zone.

The Junior Midgets were eliminated from the playoffs by Menlo-Atherton 22-6.

Mitchell Slater hit Frank Maldonado for a 45-yard scoring strike for the Browns’ lone points.

The Mitey Mites delivered a 30-18 victory over Hollister to end their season on a winning note.

Keanu Castro posted a touchdown on offense, special teams and defense to lift the Browns. Castro found paydirt on a 40-yard run, a 65-yard kickoff return and a fumble recovery. Jonathan Ortega and Christopher Gorgulho scored on runs of 25 and 15, respectively.
