MANTECA – After finishing in second place in their past two tournaments, Gilroy’s South County Titans 12U travel baseball team broke through to take first place at the Halloween Havoc tournament at Big League Dreams Park in Manteca last weekend.

The Titans started off the tournament on Saturday night with a strong offensive effort and solid pitching in a 15-0 win over the Monterey County Undertakers.

In the nightcap game, which ended after midnight, the Titans squandered an early lead and fell behind 7-6 but came back in the final inning to finish the game with a 7-7 tie against the Weston Ranch All-Stars.

The Titans were the No. 2-seed after pool play and again faced the Weston Ranch All-Stars (No. 4-seed) in the semifinal game. The Titans put it all together with strong pitching, offense and defense to defeat the All-Stars in a 7-0 shutout to advance to the championship game.

The Titans faced off against No. 1-seed Bases Loaded from San Lorenzo. Bases Loaded jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Titans wasted no time in answering with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. The Titans defense and pitching were stingy as they held Bases Loaded scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Titans added three more runs down the stretch and never looked back, taking the title, 5-3.
