The GHS boys junior varsity basketball team went 3-0 in the
Watsonville Holiday Tournament December 27-31.
The GHS boys junior varsity basketball team went 3-0 in the four-day, pool play Watsonville Holiday Tournament last week.
Similar to the Bob Hagen Memorial Tournament three weeks ago, the Mustangs went undefeated for the second consecutive year and for the sixth time in the last eight years at the Watsonville tourney.
The Mustangs opened tournament play with a 79-47 win over host Watsonville High School.
Greg Spellman led the way with a team-high 14 points while Brendan Holler and Troy Charvet had 12 points each.
In the second game, Gilroy beat King City High School 83-37 behind Holler’s 19 points and Tommy Cox’s 10 points and eight rebounds.
In the final game, GHS knocked off Live Oak 49-36. The young Mustangs were anchored by Spellman’s 25 points, including five 3-pointers, which highlighted the Mustangs’ victory.
The JV Mustangs are 9-3 overall entering Tri-County Athletic League play on Wednesday against Alvarez.
