Playing its third game of the week, the Gilroy High boys soccer team saved its best for last in a 5-0 thrashing of Salinas on Friday.

A slim 1-0 halftime lead expanded into the convincing victory as the Mustangs move to a flawless 6-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 10-2-2 overall.

Jorge Sanchez tallied twice while Jonathan Diaz De Leon, Abraham Arriaga and Kristian Urias added to the firepower with one goal apiece. Urias was credited with three assists and Diaz De Leon two.

After the trio of contests last week, the Mustangs have just one this week – but it’s a big one.

GHS hosts second-place Alisal (7-5-2, 5-1 TCAL) on Thursday. The Trojans, the TCAL’s defending titlist, and the section’s reigning champ, dropped a 5-2 decision in the teams’ first encounter.
