Gilroy firefighters responded to a brushfire about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Sunrise Drive and Rancho Hills Drive, just south of Christopher High School.

No one was injured and the fire was extinguished.

The space was a 50-by-50 foot area of vegetation according Rob Van Wormer, battalion chief for the South Santa Clara County Fire District and CalFire.

During this time of year especially, he warned “vegetation fires are starting and people need to pay attention.”

Van Wormer said typically three engines will be dispatched to brushfires as “you never know how big it’s going to get.”
