A Morgan Hill man remains hospitalized with major injuries four days after his motorcycle collided head-on with another vehicle in San Martin, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Gregory Hampton, 49, suffered major head trauma, a fractured femur and fractured ribs when his Kawasaki motorcycle collided with an Infinity sedan on Watsonville Road in San Martin Thursday afternoon. Hampton was being treated for his injuries at Valley Medical Center in San Jose as of Monday, said CHP Officer Jaime Rios.

“We know that it’s serious,” Rios said.

He said the driver of the Infiniti was Steven Romero, a 45-year-old Danville man who was not injured.

According to witness statements, Hampton was driving south in the northbound lane attempting to pass another vehicle when he collided with Romero’s vehicle, Rios said. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Both lanes of Watsonville road were blocked for more than 20 minutes, according to the CHP.
