Law enforcement agencies throughout Santa Clara County arrested 133 people on suspicion of impaired driving during the three-day Memorial Day weekend.

The arrests were made as part of the countywide “Avoid the 13” enhanced enforcement effort to keep motorists driving under the influence of alcohol drugs on high-traffic holiday evenings, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said.

The 133 arrests from Friday night to Monday night were made by officers representing 15 law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Last year during the Memorial Day weekend, police arrested 146 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police also reported during this year’s Memorial Day weekend, five DUI crashes resulting in three injuries took place on local roads. No deaths were reported.
