The Gilroy Chaos U16 travel softball team posted a 7-1 record en route to winning the NSA Northern California State ‘B’ Division championship last weekend.

The team played in three different cities, Manteca, Modesto and Turlock, during the three-day tournament, earning a berth into the NSA Western World Series later this month.

Raeanna Covarrubias pitched five of the eight games and Angelica Carrillo shared the spotlight in the circle, pitching three games. Both were steady forces on the mound, allowing just 14 runs in eight tilts.

Meanwhile, the bats came through for the Chaos collecting 56 runs. Olivia Barajas led in the team with nine RBI, and teammate Mariah Martinez not only caught all eight games, but also had five RBI for the weekend.

Kayla Medrano, Angelica Carrillo, Dez Canela, Janelle Hernandez, Brittany Souza and Janae Estrada made sure they were included in the onslaught, registering four RBI each.

Carrillo and Martinez also led the team, scoring seven runs apiece. Barajas, Souza, Estrada and Medrano added six runs each.

The Chaos will try to continue their winning pattern in Sacramento at the Western World Series July 18-21.
