Four players collected two hits apiece as the Gilroy Little League softball Majors All-Stars put together its most convincing victory of the Western Regional Tournament 14-4 over Utah on Tuesday in San Bernardino.

Nikki Villanueva (2 for 3, RBI), Liezl Clark (2 for 2, three runs), Pati Soria (2 for 2, three runs, two RBI) and Cynthia Del Real (2 for 2, RBI) spearheaded the team’s 10-hit, 14-run barrage that took just the minimum four innings to complete due to the 10-run rule.

Jel Reyes and Michaela Decker also picked up a hit and RBI.

Reyes and Maria Sandoval split the duties in the circle, each pitching two innings. Sandoval allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) before Reyes entered to keep matters under wraps. Reyes struck out three batters in her two innings.

Gilroy improves to 3-0 in Pool A play with one more game in the round-robin format slated for Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Washington, which is also 3-0, at Houghton Stadium.

The winner of that contest will be the No. 1 seed in Pool A and will take on the runner-up of Pool B, in the semifinals Thursday. The loser will be the No. 2 seed out of Pool A and play the top-seed out of Pool B.

The finals are scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. when a trip to the Little League World Series will be at stake.
