Police are investigating an alleged attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl Tuesday evening, July 26 in the 7600 block of Miller Avenue in Gilroy.

A suspect described as a bald, Hispanic male with a goatee between 30 and 40 years old and driving a black-and-white Honda vehicle stopped alongside the girl, who was in a family member’s front yard, and asked her to get into the car, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

The girl “did the right thing and immediately ran into the house,” GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said.

The suspect never got out of the vehicle nor did he touch the girl, engaging only in “verbal interaction,” Gallacinao said.

He said such instances were not common in Gilroy, but encouraged parents to talk to their children about safe ways to avoid danger.

“It only takes that one time when it affects not only the family but the whole community. Obviously we treat stuff like this very seriously,” Gallacinao said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the GPD at 846-0350 or anonymously at 1-800-782-7463.
