With patent-pending algorithms that monitor the reading patterns associated with individual news stories, Toll Trigger allows the market of readers – whether local, national or international – to qualify if and when a story is monetized.

Toll Trigger offers an innovative solution for bridging the “free to fee” content gap faced by content providers worldwide. In the Toll Trigger model, initial access to any story or other e-content is free, allowing viral interest to build. A toll is only invoked when the combined traffic generated from referring sites exceeds certain publisher-defined parameters. Online readers or viewers then have to pay to access the story, unless they are a subscriber to the publication or have purchased a Toll Pass, allowing free access to all stories on sites affiliated with the Toll Trigger Network of media companies. As interest declines, defined algorithmic triggers release the payment requirement and restore free access to the story.

Toll Trigger includes a syndication feature granting nationally licensed media (such as Fox, CNN, etc.) reproduction rights to content originating from any Toll Trigger affiliate that has passed both local and syndicated trigger filtering.

Content publishers can also regulate toll fees and advertising content served to readers based on their geographic point of origin, providing advertising portals for local or national retailers.
