Next Tuesday, the Gilroy Library along with every other Santa Clara County Library District branch will close for the day so technicians can upgrade system technology.
District libraries will not be open for any on-site or online services, so patrons are encouraged to use library resources before Aug. 23, or wait until the next day before checking out or returning materials.
The county is installing Horizon software, a major technology upgrade that will enhance the District’s Integrated Library System and public access computer system, according to Santa Clara County press release.
“August is generally a slower time of the year, so this brief closure should have the least impact on library patrons. Everyone still has a few weeks to check out and renew materials,” said Dion Bracco, chair of the County Library District Joint Powers Authority Board.
According to the county, the Library District has made every effort to do the preliminary required prep work days before the actual closure, but since the maintenance and upgrading involves hardware and complex coordination between the vendor and the district in two different states, taking the system down temporarily was unavoidable.
The Gilroy Library on 7652 Monterey Road is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. most days, except on Tuesday when the library opens at 1 p.m.
