BASKETBALL: Bowers’ triple-double, Babb’s double-double lead CHS boys past NMC

TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

Takoda Bowers missed Christopher High’s nonleague portion of its schedule as he recovered from a hand injury suffered in the second-to-last game of the football season. Since the junior center’s return to the starting lineup four games ago, he has worked his way back to being an prime asset for head coach Kaden Bahner and the Cougars boys basketball team.
Bowers posted a triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks) and CHS defeated North Monterey County 66-51 in Monterey Bay League action Monday night in Castroville.
“That’s the first time a varsity player has turned in a triple-double at Christopher high,” Bahner said. “But other than that, it was just a gritty, physical game.”
Bahner said the Cougars struggled a bit in the first half, surrendering a few too many turnovers. But a 26-19 lead at the half gave the Cougars room to improve.
“We were able to turn it up in that second half,” Bahner said. “We were able to calm down, take care of the ball and work it into the post players.”
Wyatt Rocheleau posted a team-high 20 points, Dillon Babb had a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds), Andrew Foster chipped in eight points and Nick Cordova had seven points, including 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars (6-10, 2-2 MBL) have two more league contests this week, beginning with a home matchup with first-place Monterey followed by a Friday night game on the road at Monte Vista Christian. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.
