Tour Cannery Row, learn about America’s ‘most famous street’

The Docs Lab in Monterey.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Cannery Row Foundation conducts its annual “Docs Lab” tours on Cannery Row in honor of Kalisa Moore, the “Queen of Cannery Row” (1926-2009) – on or near her birthday on Jan. 31).

The Foundation also hosts tours on John Steinbeck’s and Ed Ricketts’ birthday weekends each year.

There are hourly tours from 9 a.m. until the last tour that starts at 5 p.m. Cost is $15 per person donation; historians and educators present the history of the Lab, its owner Ed “Doc” Ricketts, and John Steinbeck’s many connections to Pacific Biological Laboratories at 800 Cannery Row, Monterey.

Reservations are strongly recommended (often tours sell out) at [email protected] or (831) 659-2112. The foundation coordinates and confirm all reservations, especially for travelers to the Lab Tours from places like Gilroy and beyond.
