FRIDAY ROUNDUP: Softball, baseball and volleyball

Christopher High’s softball team made it three victories in its last four outings with a 2-0 nod over visiting Aptos on Friday.
The Cougars are 4-2 overall and next take the field Tuesday night against Gilroy High at Gavilan College. First pitch is 7 p.m.
• Gilroy High manager Jared Gamble said he doesn’t mind losing a couple games here or there. However, the way the Tri-County Athletic League slate has started for the Mustangs, the way they have lost isn’t sitting well.
Errors and lackluster hitting derailed Gilroy’s first two outings, respectively, against San Benito. Errors again set the Mustangs back Friday in a 5-4 loss to visiting Salinas.
“The ways we have lost so far have been ridiculous,” Gamble said. Some base running mistakes and errors cost us today.”
The Cowboys tallied four runs – all unearned – through the first two innings.
The Mustangs (2-3 overall, 0-3 TCAL) had the tying run at second base with one out and at third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but could not come up with the final 90 feet.
Bubu Garcia blasted a pair of two-run home runs, the second pulled GHS within the 5-4 margin.
“He was our run support today,” Gamble said.
Jordan Dexter and Brendan Holler each had two hits for the Mustangs, who play Christopher on Saturday at Gavilan College at 2 p.m.
• Mount Madonna School slammed the door shut on visiting Gilroy High with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-9 win nonleague boys volleyball action Friday night in Watsonville.
It was the Mustangs third match in four nights. GHS won the last meeting with the Hawks in five games a year ago. The Hawks did the same to the Mustangs during the 2009-10 season.
GHS (5-5 overall) host Alisal back in league play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
