At 1 p.m. on Friday, July 13, the driver of a Gilroy Fire engine collided with a white Oldsmobile on Church and Fourth streets, causing injury to himself and the passenger of the Oldsmobile.
The passenger of the Oldsmobile, a 19-year-old Gilroy female, complained of pain to her shoulder and hip, and said she would seek medical treatment, according to a Dispatcher from the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the fire truck, a 33-year-old Gilroy firefighter and Gilroy resident, complained of back pain.
The Oldsmobile sustained moderate damage to the front end of the car, while the fire truck sustained only minor damage.
According to state law, whenever an emergency vehicle is involved in a crash, the CHP takes over the investigation. The CHP would not release any further details at this time.
Gilroy Police Department’s records indicate that there have been seven accidents in the past three years at Church and Fourth Streets. None of these accidents involved injuries, until the firetruck incident, which caused one major injury.
