Three more arrested in string of burglaries

Three more arrests add to the pile of recent suspects allegedly caught in a series of burglaries in Morgan Hill, police said.

After officers pulled over an unidentified make of vehicle near Fountain Oaks Drive and Sorrel Way Monday, they arrested the three occupants who were in possession of stolen property, Morgan Hill police Sgt. Troy Hoefling said.

Found in the car were stolen credit cards and company checks for a number of businesses in Morgan Hill and surrounding communities, Hoefling said. Also found were credit cards associated with a residential burglary on Darnis Circle that was reported to MHPD earlier Monday.

The recovered company checks were confirmed as stolen during at least two commercial burglaries reported in Hollister earlier this week, police said.

Arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and methamphetamine were the vehicle’s occupants, John Wells, 30 of Morgan Hill, Victor Betancourt, 23 of Gilroy, and Jose Ulloa, 19 of Gilroy.

The three suspects were booked at Santa Clara County Jail, Hoefling said.

These arrests add to those of Sean Wright, 19 of Morgan Hill, and Anegekuh Fonjah, 19 of Morgan Hill, who were arrested July 17 in a traffic stop in Morgan Hill. That traffic stop found stolen electronics equipment, televisions, laptops, video game systems and jewelry in the car, police said.

So far, those arrests, plus that of a third suspect – a juvenile who is in custody – have closed out four burglary incidents that were reported in Morgan Hill in July, Hoefling said. Those burglaries happened at single-family homes in the area of Llagas Road and East Main Avenue.

In another unrelated string of burglaries, also arrested last month was Zachary Knight, 20 of San Jose, who allegedly was involved in a residential burglary in the area of Woodland Estates and West Middle Avenue July 22.

Knight turned himself in at the police station the day after officers responded to a burglar alarm at the residence where the burglary was in progress, police said. Knight fled the scene before officers arrived, but were able to connect him to a vehicle left in the area of the crime.

Still at large in relation to that incident is Knight’s accomplice, Stephen Maciel, 21 of San Jose, police said.
