WATER POLO: GHS boys rebound for win against Alvarez

The Gilroy High boys water polo team dealt with a loss Tuesday to Stevenson in the best possible way, returning to the pool two days later and recording a win.The Mustangs used a quick start, built a five-goal lead by the half and rolled  to a 14-5 victory over Alvarez on Thursday.
“Every team member got to play today and gain experience,” GHS head coach Fred Latimore said. “The win was truly a total team effort.”
Tommy Cox saved 11 shots as goalie and also scored a team-high four for the Mustangs. All four of his tallies came in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs distanced themselves to the final buzzer.
Garrett Pipkin, who had the only two goals for GHS in the Tuesday loss, followed that up with three more Thursday. Brendan Reimer and Sam Mandel also had three, while Daniel Fisser added one.
“We came out and had a very balanced attack on offense today,” Latimore said. “It’s always great to see five different players score. We have been working on moving without the ball to create opportunities on offense and we accomplished that today.”
