Christopher has great performances against Salinas

Christopher was swept by Salinas in track and field on Thursday, but not without putting up a fight and turning in some incredible results.
Andrew Brisby set a new Christopher record in the triple jump, clearing 41 feet, 7 inches. He was a good 2 feet ahead of Sebastian Magana-Garcia, who turned in a leap of 39 feet, 1.5 inches.
Vanessa Koontz had a strong day, pulling out two wins in events she’s used to and one she tried for the first time.
Koontz took on the 300m hurdles and cleared them in one of the closest finishes of the day.
She got across the finish line just a hair faster than Salinas’ Taylor Burbank with a win in 48.76 to pull out the race by 0.02 seconds.
Koontz also narrowly won the 400m race by a comparatively more comfortable margin, crossing the line in 1:03.09, 0.32 seconds ahead of Veronica Aguilar of Salinas.
She rounded out her day in the 200m race where she out paced teammate Haley Romero by 1.22 seconds, winning with a time of 27.06.
Returning to the boys side, Sawyer Ciccone and Austin Hudson both turned in sub 5 minute times in the 1600, taking third and fourth, respectively.
Ciccone ran a 4:59.67 with Hudson a breath behind at 4:59.69.
Both were edged out by Salinas’ Jonathan Saldana (4:51.64) and Antonio Rodriguez (4:58.75).
The boys did, however, sweep the sprints and the medium distance races, with Isaiah McCrimmon just out pacing Isaac McCrimmon in the 100m, crossing in 11.27 to Isaac’s 11.28.
Isaac again took second in a close 200m, this time to teammate Tyler Parlsey who finished in 23.14 to Isaac’s 23.25.
In the 400m, Victor Guerrero had a comfortable 3-second win, finishing in 53.64.
Finally, in the 800, Hudson won the event with a time of 2:12.61, winning by 2.57 seconds.
In the relay, Christopher’s 4×100 team of Isaiah, Isaac, Guerrero and Parsley won by just less than a second with a time of 44.62. Salinas finished in 45.58.
In the field events, Isaac won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet to round out Christopher’s wins.
Kyle Ettema took second in the pole vault clearing 11 feet, 6 inches.
Josiah Hobbs took second in the high jump clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.
In the throws, Franklin Okoronkwo took second with a toss of 39 feet, 11.5 inches in the shot put and Collins Okoronkwo took third in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 3 inches.
On the girls side, Romero turned in the only other individual win other than Koontz’ when she took the 100m hurdles in 16.26. She just beat out teammate Aischa Goudy, who ran a 17.30.
Christopher also picked up a win in the 4×100 relay, with Andrea Ortiz, Goudy, Romero and Koontz beating out Salinas by less than a half second.
The Cougars ran time of 51.16 to the Cowboys’ 51.54.
Rounding out the day was Isabella Jimenez in the discus, who threw a second-place toss of 92 feet, 2 inches
