Christopher preps for start of league play

Christopher fell in its final non-league contest, 39-9 at Woodside, falling behind early and failing to capitalize on some opportunities in the game.
The Cougars trailed 7-0 after the first quarter and went down 21-0 by the half thanks to a pair of turnovers that swung the game.
“That turned the tide a little bit against us,” said coach Tim Pierleoni. “But I thought our defense did a good job for being on the field
so much.”
The Cougars now get ready to start Gabilan Division play Friday night starting with Salinas on the road.
The Cowboys are 2-2 coming into the game, coming off a tough 9-3 loss to Milpitas last week.
Salinas will come at Christopher with a strong line on both sides of the ball to complement a balanced run and passing attack led by Richard Cerda on the ground and Brett Reade at quarterback.
Cerda has just shy of 400 yards on the ground on 70 carries in four games with a touchdown.
Reade follows with 458 in the air with four TDs against as many interceptions.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Pit
in Salinas.
