    ENGAGEMENT

    Konopacky/Locsin

    Hylary Konopacky and Jason Locsin are engaged to marry Nov. 29, 2008.

    Hylary, daughter of Mark and Candice Konopacky, is a 2002 graduate of Live Oak High School and received a degree in 2007 from San Jose State University. She currently works at Morgan Hill Library as a library clerk and will start teaching science in fall of 2009.

    Jason, son of Albert and Kathy Locsin, is a 2002 graduate of Live Oak High School and received a degree in 2008 from San Jose State University. He is a music teacher and co-director of Mariachi Alma de Mexico.

    The couple plans a Nov. 29, Christmas themed wedding at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church, in Hollister, and at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. They plan to honeymoon with a Caribbean cruise. They reside in San Jose.

    Jeremy Douglas Galbraith II

    Jeremy Douglas Galbraith II was born May 25, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital to Sarah R. Perry and Jeremy Galbraith of Gilroy. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

    Issac Michael Nolan

    Issac Michael Nolan was born June 2, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Dina Cadenazzi and Patrick Nolan of Hollister. He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces.

    Olivia Grace Gouker

    Olivia Grace Gouker was born June 23, 2008 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Priscilla and Eric Gouker of Hollister. She weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

    Savanna Rose Recht

    Savanna Rose Recht was born June 7, 2008 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Sara Danielle and Stanley David Recht of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

    Rico Fernandez Jr.

    Rico Fernandez Jr. was born June 29, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Jaimi B. Lunn of Gilroy. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

    HONORS

    Marcelyn Rosie Bayne

    Hollister resident Marcelyn Rosie Bayne received her diploma in the medical office: biller/coder program at Central Coast College June 18. Bayne is currently employed at the Tolentino Family Practice in Hollister.

    The program included speeches by graduating students. The speakers were selected for all-around achievement, including grades, attitude and professionalism, and spoke movingly of their experiences at Central Coast College and the changes in their lives as a result of their education.

    Central Coast College President and CEO, Robert H. Schaefer, along with the instructors in the various programs awarded diplomas to the graduates.

    Mount Madonna School named finalist

    Mount Madonna School is one of 75 schools statewide named as a finalist in the 2008 Governor's Challenge Competition. The contest, sponsored by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, was open to all of California's K-12th students with a goal of encouraging increased physical fitness.

    As a finalist, Mount Madonna School is now in consideration for one of the competition's three grand prizes - brand new fitness centers valued at $100,000. In addition, either Mount Madonna School or Fremont Elementary School of Salinas, will be named a regional award winner and receive $5,000.

    One hundred percent of Mount Madonna School's students completed the challenge.

    Grand prize and regional award winners will be announced at a special ceremony at the State Capitol in September.

    Jason Cabatingan

    Army Cadet Jason A. Cabatingan is one of 267 cadets who attended the 2008 George C. Marshall Foundation Awards Seminar at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The cadet received the George C. Marshall ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Award at the seminar.

    The award is presented annually to the most outstanding senior Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) cadets in military science studies and leadership values in each battalion at host universities or colleges.

    Cabatingan is the son of Jose A. Cabatingan of Gilroy and Debbie A. Teller of Dublin. He is a 1999 graduate of San Ramon Valley High School in Danville.

    Teal Peterson

    Teal A. Peterson, a graduate of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, was Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps on June 14, 2008, at Stanford University.

    Second Lt. Peterson has been attending the University of California, Davis under a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship as part of the NROTC UC Berkeley Unit.

    In addition to receiving his Commission, Peterson received a degree from the University of California, Davis in Environmental Resource Sciences. Peterson will continue his Marine Corps Officer Education at Marine Corps Base Quantico in October.

    He is the son of Zeta Peterson and Phillip Peterson, both residents of Morgan Hill.
