Las Animas Elementary School students celebrated winning a Distinguished School Award during a pep rally Thursday. Guest appearances were made by Gilroy boxer Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero and the Gilroy High School cheerleaders.

Both Guerrero and the cheerleaders also talked about the importance of studying, getting a good night's sleep, eating healthily and trying hard. The elementary school students are preparing to take the California Standards Test, which determines their academic rating with the state and whether they could again be named a distinguished school.
