Red phone: Favorite restaurant no longer open
Jul 10, 2008
 By Dispatch Staff

Yes, King's Table is closed

"What's with King's Table? That's our favorite buffet. We can't believe it's closed. We'll surely miss it. Thanks."

Dear Can't Believe it's Gone,

Red Phone looked into it and discovered a notice pasted on the front door issued by the Santa Clara County Superior Court to vacate by July 1. Red Phone called the attorney for the property owner, Kirkman Hoffman, the owner of San Jose's Ace Eviction Services. He did not return calls asking for comment as to why King's Table is leaving. So good caller, here's to finding another place for dinner. What about Hometown Buffet?

It's all about the speed

"Red Phone, I sent an e-mail about adding stops signs on Hirasaki and thanks for answering it. But my questions was really about the speed of the traffic not so much about how many vehicles travel the road. Also, I wanted to add that you do an awesome job at listening to all of us complaining residents. We sound like a bunch whining kids at times. Thanks."

Dear Thankful,

Red Phone forwarded your complaint to the police department's traffic officer. So if you don't see less speeding, let Red Phone know. And, thanks for the nice words.

Red Phone gets a bit frustrated at times with some complaints, but is here for a reason and that's to help solve your problems, regardless of how inconsequential or petty. Keep 'em coming.

Cause of fire was electrical

"What was the cause of the fire on Church Avenue? Did the cat and dog really die or did the lady find her animals?"

Dear Wondering,

The cause of the fire was electrical, according to CalFire Battalion Chief Derek Witmer, and unfortunately the fire did kill two of the family's pets but a third survived.

Cars parked on lawn an eyesore

"Red Phone, I live on Welburn Avenue and when I look across the street I see a neighbor who has a used car lot in his front yard. City (employees) drive by and seem not to care. Right now he has three cars in his yard, sometimes more. Who do we call to complain?"

Dear What to Do,

Red Phone has written about the issue of cars parked in front yards and lawns on several occasions. Nothing will be done unless a complaint is filed.

So good caller, file a complaint at (408) 846-0264, then let the Red Phone know if things worked out to your satisfaction.

Front yard is a disgusting mess

"We have a problem. We have a neighbor and the house is on the corner of Miller Avenue and Fifth Street. The yard is filthy, it's full of rats and also full of dog manure, piles of it. The smell is unbearable, especially in this hot weather. Hope somebody can do something. Thank you."

Dear Disgusted,

The scene you are describing would drive any neighbor inside. As with the parking of cars on front lawns, the city only responds to these types of issues when complaints are filed with the city.

Chapter 12 of the Municipal code contains numerous sections that regulate the handling, storage and disposal of garbage, refuse and debris.

In addition Section 5C.07 of the Residential Blight ordinance prohibits the accumulation of solid waste in an area that is visible from a street or public way unless it is enclosed in an approved container, or stored in a manner that would prevent the material from being transported by the wind. Section 12.18 requires that all garbage or rubbish produced or accumulated on a premise be deposited in an approved container and placed for collection as directed by the director of public works.

So good caller, as with the caller above, file a complaint at (408) 846-0264, then let the Red Phone know if things worked out to your satisfaction.
